Beautiful guitar, Bob. Good thing you protected the back - far too many older Ricks have that characteristic gigging rash through the finish, and with the lovely maple on yours that kind of damage would have been a real shame. Thanks for posting the pics!

I put that piece of leather on there very soon after I got the guitar. I glued it on with rubber cement. (I know.. Don't yell.) You can also see that I put a couple of pieces of white athletic tape on the bottom edge to hold the leather where it would start to curl and come off. You can also see from the wear on the leather that it has taken a quite beating. The good news is all of the adhesive stuff came off fairly easily and did not leave significant marks in the finish. I certainly would not recommend gluing anything to your guitar however.
It plays great. The neck is still perfect. I always did like the neck on this guitar. When I bought it there were two that I was looking at. I picked this one because of the neck.
Other things I did: I took the cover off the bridge. I didn't like the way it interferred with my hand. By the way, I just looked, I still have it in the case. I played it as a 12 string early and a 6 string later. This caused the nut to break out on the G string. It holds ok. But if you look closely you can see it.

+1. My 1967 360-12 Mapleglo. Traded a Vox Mark XII boat-anchor for it (with a little cash from my friends). Lots of gigs and lots of memories . . .242_foxtrot wrote:Beautiful. I wish I still had my 67 360/12.
Who would have thunk I would be pining away for it 40 years later?
Good for you to hold onto it. It's a great-looking guitar.

Welcome Robert! You will find this forum to be very helpful and entertaining.
What a great guitar, and very cool to see it in the hands of it's original owners.
Have to admit, I thought the leather thing was weird, BUT....if you look at just about any other vintage guitar (Ric or otherwise) they have belt buckle rash on the backside, or worming etc...yours looks immaculate, well done!
Cheers,
-Collin

I am obviously not the OP, but I can tell you that my '65 450/12 FG came from Rickenbacker fitted with flat wound strings. and the factory replacement strings "Electro Strings" in the red factory box with silver lettering, as I recall, were also flat wound, with a would primary third, or "G" string. Very nice strings, BTW.Damon Davis wrote:do you remember what kind of strings you used back in the 60s ? round or flat wound ?

At this point I can't tell you for certain what type of string came on the guitar. My recollection is that they were probably flat wound. I did prefer round wound strings and probably switched fairly soon. Maybe '68.Damon Davis wrote:do you remember what kind of strings you used back in the 60s ? round or flat wound ?
