Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric

er, not trying to rock the boat, but when have Ric players been overly PC? i'm not a fan of pointless profanity, both online and in person, but sometimes things need to be highlighted. asterisks work, they allow the reader to form their "own" word that suits the situation for them. life ne...

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric

Also strange for '79 (and I've seen this on a bunch of '79's) note the long bridge height adjuster screws. The tail has holes through it so that the bridge height adjuster screws sit on the maple. under the tailpiece (i think a replacement, but looks too vintage to be an Allparts) of my '79 lefty t...

Re: Ric Bass Tones on Record: Most Aggressive

i've always admired Kira Roessler's work in Black Flag...not terribly aggressive though for a Ric... and i was surprised (and impressed) the first time i saw Mogwai play, the bassist deals to a 4003AG - was cool to see a Ric in one of my favourite bands and the exact same model as mine. anything by ...

the evil and dreaded drop-D...

i play most of my basses with drop-D tuning...of course, Rics being a slightly smaller scale, i'm losing some tension and girth on the dropped string. i've found that a 135 B string gives me some more grunt (instead of the usual 105 i run), but she's still a little flabby. any suggestions? bass exte...

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric

I checked out your Myspace offerings - dig the heaviness of the sound! Although, the bass could be turned up a bit in the mix for my taste. (That being said, most people complain that the bass is too loud in my mixes.) But I did hear the bass nicely in 'My Love Is Like Whoa' and 'Siesta.' cheers du...

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric

i found mine in 2007, from an online-equipped store in the US (can't remember who now!). they sent me through a huge number of mint photos, so i knew exactly what i was getting. had a good chat with them too, which gave me some confidence. tone/volume knobs don't bother me much, since i've modified ...

Re: Horseshoe pickup on the CS Bass

gonna have to disagree (slightly) there, my RIHS sounds NOTHING like the hi-gains in my other Rics ('84, '89, '98) - much more ballsy tone, higher gain, more treble and upper midrange.

but then again, i've never heard 2 Rics that sound the same...

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric

damn Mark that's cool! took me a long time to find a 400x lefty that i could string righty...this one ('79) had been converted to righty at one stage, then back again...so the nut had pieces of toothpick used to get the strings sitting correctly  came with the RI HS and toaster, and new pickg...

Re: Horseshoe pickup on the CS Bass

hmmmm...so has anyone thought of fabricating a high-carbon steel horsey "shoe" that can hold some magnetism?

how would this change the overall tone? (if at all...not looking for more gain, just the mad scientist in me working overtime :) )

Re: Horseshoe pickup on the CS Bass

i didn't think that the horsey could be removed, leaving the p/up there by itsself? i've removed the plastic covers from the bridge p/up on all my Rics, just seemed to get in the way. but the horsey for some reason feels good as a palm rest...maybe 'cause it's solid metal rather than flimsy chromed ...

Re: Selling your rarest bass ?

i've often considered moving on my '63 Burns Vista-Sonic bass, probably the only "rare" bass that i have that i wouldn't feel a pit in my stomach if i sold it. '6? (haven't even checked the serial# !) Fender Mustang Fretless...looks to be a factory fretless (dot markers on the maple neck) ...
