Re: Rick O Sound Question

Most 360/12V64's have dual mono like George's, not ROS. Same thing goes to both outputs. The 5th knob is not really a blend knob, it's a second volume reverse potted on the neck pickup, so it functions kind of like a blend, so everyone has always called it that. In a ROS setup it will be much more ...

Rick O Sound Question

Hi All,

I've got a couple rickenbacker 12s with Rick-o-sound. I bought a Rattlesnake TRS to dual mono splitter and a stereo cable to give it a shot.

My impression was rick o sound splits each pickup to different channels of the TRS cable, bridge goes to one, and neck goes to the other, and the ...

Re: Flatwounds on 6-string Ricks?

Elixir strings have a protective coating which preserves them from corrosion etc. and in my opinion takes off a little of that metallic high treble harshness, which is an aspect I actually like. Therefore I wonder if using those instead of the B and E unwounds from the Thomastik set may balance ...

99' 360/12v64 - B Strings Fret Sharp

I've got a 1999 360/12v64. It's got a 6-saddle bridge, intonated pretty well. Neck mostly flat, action feels good. I'm using TI Flats and they play well, and balanced.

I'm having an issue with the B strings (which are 13s) fretting sharp around the 1st to 3rd frets. I feel like I can't lower the ...

Re: 1990s Rickenbacker 360/12v64 - "heavier" strings?

Remember that tension varies as the square of the diameter, not linearly. So when you go up a diameter of string, say from 10 to 11, you are inceasing tension geometrically. A typical 10 plain has about 15.6 lbs of tension at pitch, while a plain 11 has about 20.3 lbs of tension at pitch (tension ...

1990s Rickenbacker 360/12v64 - "heavier" strings?

Hey all,

I have a late 1990s Rickenbacker 360/12v64. I put together a custom set of the following, using GHS Nickel Rocker rollerwound (semi flat) wound strings, and regular plains:

10/10, 13/13, 20w/8, 26/11, 36/20p, 44/26.

It plays fantastic, and sounds really good, but the 10s and 13s tend to ...

12 String Bridge - Saddle Slot Cutting

Hi All,

I just installed a 12-saddle bridge on my 1995 Rick 360/12v64. I got the bridge installed just fine, and filed string slots in the bridge saddles with adequate spacing, etc.

For depth, my thinking was to make the saddle slots as shallow as possible, just enough to hold the strings in place ...

Re: 12-saddle string spacing-notching

I just installed a 12-saddle bridge on my 360/12v64.

I just put the old bridge right behind the new bridge with the strings slackened. I was able to eyeball it pretty close that way.

Also with the strings on the guitar you can kinda eyeball that the strings are straight coming from the tailpiece ...

Re: Winfield Accent Vibrato on Rick 330/6

Thanks for the tips. I definitely do not want more expense. Also I need a case that can fly, and vintage style case is definitely not that. So I'll probably be converting back. Anyone want a good deal on a very lightly used RH Winfield Accent Vibrato (R-piece adapter style)?

Winfield Accent Vibrato on Rick 330/6

Hey All,

I've been looking for an excuse to sell my Fender Jaguar. I prefer my Rick 330/6 for many reasons, but the one thing it CANT do is vibrato. So I bought a Winfield Accent Vibrato. The product from Winfield is made really well and looks good, and installs on my guitar just fine, but I just ...

Using Radius Gauges on Rick 12s for String Height

Hey All,

I just installed a new 12-saddle bridge on my 360/12v64. Love it so far. It was the first time I ever cut bridge slots using a set of files. It was pretty easy, although I'll say the Rickenbacker 12-saddle bridge wasn't sized quite right, I was cutting slots like RIGHT at the edge of ...

Re: 6-saddle vs 12-saddle sound

I just swapped the 6-saddle bridge on my 1995 360/12v64 for a new rickenbacker 12-saddle bridge. There is a VERY slight reduction in sustain from the smaller aluminum saddles, but it's extremely slight.

By comparison, I have an early 1980s 360/12 with a custom "Stars Guitars" 12 saddle bridge ...

Re: Truss Rod Question

I don't fly with guitars/basses, but if I did I would do what I do when I ship instruments. Pad the headstock well so it won't move around in the case, sideways, and up and down.

Ric hardshell cases are such that the guitars don't move at all within the case, they're pretty tough. The one weak ...

Re: Truss Rod Question

Assuming you're using a Ric case that's in good shape, I would:

a) Detune strings down to approx. "C#" to reduce neck tension a bit.

b) Take some "manilla folder" type heavy paper and wrap/tape it around the strings (as a group, not individually) to isolate them from the fretboard.

c) See if ...

Truss Rod Question

Hi Folks,

When flying with a guitar that must be checked, it's necessary to de-tune the guitar strings, right? How much does one have to de-tune them? Also, if they are de-tuned for 15-20 hours, will the truss rod need to be re-adjusted once you bring them back up to tension again?
