Back in the club! New (to me) 1973 FG 4001S

Just picked this up at lunch from The Twelfth Fret in Toronto. Ended up putting a couple of other basses I had up on consignment to pay for it, a 1968 Gretsch Monkees' Bass (model 6071) and a 1978 Music Man Sabre. Couldn't be happier with my decision as the new (to me) Ric is light, has a small, fas...

Re: 68 4001 spotted in Toronto

They're a great store, I highly recommend dealing with them. They're very customer oriented and will even let you take a vintage guitar apart to check the details. I would have been all over this if I had the available funds or felt like trading in 4 other basses. They've also got a 1974 JG 4000 for...

Re: New Acquisition: '63 4000

Thanks for all of the thoughts and input! Just so's you know... I will be heeding your advice and trying to make it as original as possible, no extra routes, no 2nd pickup. THANKS again!

Re: New Acquisition: '63 4000

I would leave it as original as possible. No rout. I learned a hard lesson messin with my 64 P bass back in the 70s. I can still get more than the $175.00 I paid for it but no where near what an original one is worth these days. I understand exactly what you're saying but I think it might be a diff...

Re: New Acquisition: '63 4000

Gentlemen, may I ask for your opinions? The '63 will be heading to Paul for the refin/retrofit sometime early in 2010, basically once he tells me to ship it because he's finally got room in his schedule... What are your thoughts as to the following considerations... 1) Keep it simple - have it refin...

Re: 1972 Rickenbacker Original Bass

Hey Devan, I sold my '72 through the forum a couple of years ago for $2,000 (yep, regretting it now) so i think that the $3,000 estimate would probably be fair. Although, if you checked around you could probably find '72s listed or "sold" for higher through a number of music stores. Honest...

Re: Misheard song lyrics

My fave isn't there... It's the Kaiser Chiefs song where they're actually singing "I Predict a Riot" and I swear, when you listen to it, it sounds like they're saying "I've got Tourette's"... Go ahead, listen, I dares ya... *smile*

Re: Anniversary bass

Congrats, that's amazing!!! You're a lucky man! I'm lucky too... My wife's contributed to at least 2 different basses too! Isn't it wonderful to find someone who you want to spend the rest of your life with who actually cares about what you love too! My 10 year anniversary is coming up next year. I ...

Re: Eden cabs - opinions?

I've got a ported Eden 2 x 10 Eden cab, that paired with a matched 1 x 15 (not an Eden) cabinet is one of the best combos I've ever used. I'm also pushing them with a 300 watt Genz Benz 500H head. However, I find that regardless of what I do with the head that either cab on it's own is pretty limiti...

Re: The Editors

You know what I find interesting about them is that after a show here in Toronto a couple of years ago... I think it was on their first tour... I was talking to them and asking them about their Rics and they knew virtually nothing about them. They loved playing them... But couldn't tell you the smal...

Thoughts on 2030?

Been offered a "well used" JG 2030 for $450.00... Any thoughts on the price? Realistic? Thoughts on the bass? Never been one of my fave shapes... But hey, at the right price (if it sounds good) its still a Ric! :D

Re: New Acquisition: '63 4000

Hey Ron, its cool that you chimed in. I remember seeing the Dwarfs several times. In fact, one of the things that always had me jonesing for a Ric when I was younger was that tiger-striped 4001 on the back of one of the early LPs! So... Yonge & Eglinton... Think he's interested in selling? :D
